Our Process
Turning Wheels offers free 20 minute initial screenings. A speech language pathologist and/or occupational then will then determine if a comprehensive evaluation is necessary based on your child’s specific areas of need.
Following the evaluation, the therapist will identify your child’s areas of need and goals will be established and discussed with the family. At Turning Wheels, we want to see progress in your child, but more importantly, we want you to see the progress.

Step 1: Evaluate
During a speech and language evaluation, a speech language pathologist will assess your child to determine their present level of functioning in the areas of speech, expressive/receptive language, fluency, voice, play/social skills, and oral-motor and feeding skills. A speech language pathologist uses formal assessments, parent report, observations and developmental/medical history to determine if a speech/language or feeding problem is present.
A speech/language evaluation looks at the following:
- Expressive language
- Receptive Language
- Articulation/Phonology
- Feeding
- Oral-motor
- Voice
- Pragmatic/Social skills
- Cognition

Step 2: Diagnose
A thorough evaluation allows the speech language pathologist to accurately identify your child’s areas of need and establish goals that will help work towards communicative success. A written report will be generated and all results will be discussed with the family.
Children with the following diagnoses may benefit from speech therapy:
- Articulation disorders
- Phonological disorders
- Apraxia
- Developmental delays
- Autism Spectrum Disorders
- Cognitive Delays
- Social/Pragmatic Language disorders
- Oral-Motor Deficits
- Feeding/Swallowing difficulties
- Auditory processing disorders

Step 3: Treat
Each treatment session is carefully planned to work towards the goals established for your individual child. Therapy sessions are typically 45 minutes and are always accompanied with a home exercise program in order to allow for optimal carry-over of the skills learned in each session. We are passionate about helping children grow and learn through fun and child-focused therapy sessions.
